Progressive
Progressive services in the ACT are run by members of the congregation in a collaborative way. Services are a mixture of Hebrew and English, families can sit together, and children are welcome.
Friday night services are run every week in the upstairs auditorium of the National Jewish Memorial Centre and start at 6.00pm.
On the first Saturday of the month there is a Torah Service at 10am.
In early 2011 we will be starting monthly Havdalah services on a Saturday evening which are very family friendly, followed by a pot-luck dinner.
You can see a regularly updated Calendar of events, by clicking here.
We love being part of the ACT Jewish Community which is one of a few communities in the world that continues to show that two congregations can work effectively together to make a dynamic community.
In mid 2010 we met to define a focus and vision for our congregation. Our focus is to provide a warm, welcoming environment for new members with a real vision to build our congregation and our wider ACT Jewish Community. This vision includes running religious services with a real sense of ruach (spirit); encouraging more people to take ownership of the services and run them in a style that has meaning for them; and a programme of children's services. We also work towards providing support for members of our community in the process of conversion, and welcome members who have partners and children who may be interested in learning a little more about Judaism.
If you would like any further information, please contact a member of the Progressive Committee on email by clicking here or phone the centre.
